But Landslides aren't just caused naturally. They can also be caused by....(wait for it..) US!!!!! Us? Yes humans can cause a landslide! But how? Well my curious stranger, We do a lot of the following: Deforestation and construction!. A lot of people don't know (i'm sure some do) that these things can eventually lead to a landslide.
- Landslides can be harmful and/or dangerous in may ways. They can cause hundreds of dollars worth of damage to homes, neighborhoods, cars, and other buildings. They can also kills many people at a time and trust me...that's a bad way to go. Being crush to death by A huge bolder doesn't sound to pleasing.
- I'm scared! How can i avoid the possibility of being smashed by a bolder? Well, you might want to avoid living on an unstable hill. But how can I tell if the hill is unstable or not? Ah. Good question. Unstable hills are usually ones that have been undercut. Undercut? Isn't that like a hair style? Hills don't have hair! Well yes, and undercut is a type of hairstyle, but in this case it means: To cut away material and leave a chunk overhanging. This mainly happens to the bottom of the hill, which is the worst place to cut a hill or mountain!! The bottom is the part that holds the rest of the hill up. Without it, the hill is now unstable and vulnerable to slide or collapse due our friend Gravity.
- But you also might want to avoid living at the bottom of a hill with barely any vegetation. Why? Because, the plants' roots hold down the soil and keep it from eroding away so easily.
